Solar Module System (SMS-1212)

The internal SMC-02 is an efficient solar module controller that can be used to keep a sealed lead acid battery topped off with a solar panel while handling up to 40 watt size.

Designed for use in harsh places, the SMS-1212 is Class 1 Div 2 approved and comes inside a wall mountable IP66 fibreglass enclosure. The controller features built in battery and solar module temperature compensation, in order to monitor both its environment and the battery it charges.

Programmable charge rate up to 2 amps (4 amp and 6 amp models available as well in the near future).

The SMC-02 automatically steers the voltage to the point of maximum power output of the solar panel even though the output is varying due to light intensity changes. Standard solar controllers will simply stop charging the battery when illumination levels are below the chargers full power requirements.

Additionally the SMS-1212 system can house the Optimum Instruments WM-485-232 module to provide wireless communication to your equipment. Thus the SMS-1212 becomes an all-in-one system that can power your equipment, charge the included 12 Amp hour battery, and provide wireless access by either creating or joining an existing WiFi network.

To maintain ease of use, the WM-485/232 accepts a wide power input range with clearly labeled screw terminals. Low operating power gives this module a long life. When included a full SMS-1212 system, you’ll never have to worry about it losing power.
